Easter sweet bread
It is no Czech easter without the Easter sweet bread. What is the best recipe? Our grandmother’s of course. We dug a little to bring a recipe by granny Marie. Try it out yourself.
Steps
Take a slighty bigger bowl and add in flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, a pinch of salt and mix wel
Make a little dimple in the middle, pour in a half of tepid milk. Add yeast and mix it a little.
Cover the bowl with a cloth and let rest for 15 – 20 minutes until its nice and bubbly.
Then add the rest of your milk, whipped egg, molten butter and lemon zest. Mix it until you create a nice dough. Then add raisins and almonds and mix well.
Now let it rest for 60 minutes in a warm place covered with a cloth.
Then put it on a board and make two loaves. Prepare a baking sheet, put your two loaves on and let it rest for another 90 minutes.
Let the dough rise and then spread it with whipped egg and top with chopped almonds.
Put it in an oven at 160°C and bake for 45 minutes until the top gets a bit golden. If you want to make sure it’s done inside, use a skewer.
