5 effective ways to stop flatulence

Flatulence is caused by elements of food that can’t be fully digested in stomach and small intestine. Very often it is cabbage, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, onions or legumes. If you suffer flatulence after consuming dairy products you are most probably lactose intolerant.

Frequent flatulence can possibly be a symptom of weak health caused by poor diet or stress.

How to get rid of flatulence

1. Exercise

A nimble walk everyday can make a big difference. Movement can have positive effect on your bowel movement.

2. Chewing

East slowly, chew properly. Chewing activates digestive processes in your whole body and properly chewed bite of food is much easier to digest anyway.

3. Drinking

Avoid sweet and fizzy drinks. Make yourself an herb tea or have a glass of water. Don’t drink right after or right before eating. We know, it is hard to resist those two ice cold beers for lunch, but where there’s a will there’s a way.

4. Herbs and spices

Herbs are in general digestive helpers and should be used as a seasoning of meat dishes, legumes or pasta. Thyme, rosemary, parsley and sage help fight off flatulence.

If you want an herb tea go for mint, chamomile, fennel seeds or ginger.

5. Soaking and fermentation

Always soak legumes for at least 24 hours. Change the water twice and always use fresh water for cooking. Add bay leaf, thyme or seaweed.

Fermented food doesn’t contain hardly digestible sugars and starch. Fermentation creates vitamin C and B which are natural antioxidants. Microbiological cultures are beneficial for digestion and boost immune system.
